Log Horizon: Episode 2

Hey everybody, welcome to Log Horizon: Episode 2's overview! I'm Lin, here to summarize what happened and give you my thoughts on the reveals in the episode. Let's go!

Seriously, mech police with huge weapons. That's nothing to be trifled with in any setting.
I really liked this episode because it shows something very important right from the get-go: there isn't really any violent end to players when they die. Though still trapped, players aren't too worried about dying then, allowing themselves to be fatally hit and just be resurrected, just like in the game. You also find out that there are rampant PKers in the game now that this aspect is released...this allows PKers to not feel guilt when they kill a player for their gold and items. You also learn that you cannot PK in town or else MMO mech police will hunt you down (AWEsome, of course).

Shiroe took advantage of Atasuki's stealth practice to eliminate two hidden PKers.
So a large part of this episode is the battle between Shiroe and crew versus some random PKers. I think this battle really made me understand what kind of anime Log Horizon was and I think that Log Horizon shows it actually knows how MMORPGs work. Log Horizon focuses more on tactics...most importatly: who has better knowledge of the game? Who can plan around their team composition and who can execute those plans more efficiently than the enemy?

Thorn Bind Hostage shown here; enchanters are weak both magically and physically, but are strong with a party.
Note that Shiroe is using a very weak class...a class that basically doesn't do anything in battles by themselves. Yet he is capable of acing a bunch of PKers all because of his cleverness, intelligence and understanding of the game. He trusts his companions to get the plan he's hatching out. He's the literal opposite of what Kirito stood for in SAO(a one man soloer whose only weaknesses were all related to people). The more I think about it, the more it makes SAO seem medicore. And take it from someone who dissected SAO's OP and ED songs because she was such a fan. I don't want to stay on this topic of comparing the two anime very long, but let me say that while I really enjoyed SAO, LH is really stomping on its balls in my own honest opinion.

Maryelle and Henrietta are worried for their druid guild member who is miles away from Akihabara.
Moving onto the next half of the anime, it also talked about Shiroe and co.'s new quest...to save a druid named Serara who was stuck in another town. If you recall, the town portals are no longer working, so people can't go to towns far away. They have a spell that allows them to return to home, but that only works with the last town you visited. Thankfully, they hear, she's safe with someone who rescued her. The two are just wanting for Shiroe to come and help them out of the town, since a PKing guild that has took over the town is looking for her. The two stay in hiding till the Shiroe gets there.

HAHA-- HIS FACE....his face is all (・へ・)
The road is supposed to be long, but thankfully Shiroe and Naotsugu have a flying mount to help them go over the terrain quickly. We'll see just how far Shiroe gets with the new griffons he summoned in the next episode! Thanks for reading!
